Lost Dreams of Separation

the sheets glow
in the afternoon sunlight
winter lasted longer this year

the stories they told us are
carelessly mixed with the
frightened wind outside

we hold each other
as we hold our dreams
in the palms of our hands

i dig my face into his shoulder
as he makes waves with
his hands
delicately bouncing the
sunlight off
the landscape
of his fingers

i close my eyes
the red warmth of the day
is trapped beneath
my eyelids
a few breaths longer

soon this gold
will dissolve
into dark blue

still
this day lingers
in our bodies
as chests raise softly
closed eyes
knitted dreams
somewhere together
